Thermal Conductivity

The thermal conductivity method is used to determine the concentration of the individual components in fluid or gas mixtures, for example for H2 leakage detection in fuel cell vehicles.

The patent pending TCS method developed by AST detects the thermal conductivity of liquid and gas mixtures and thereby deduces their composition. The thermal conductivity of the medium can be determined by means of a special analysis procedure. Determining the concentration of the individual components in liquid or gas mixtures is particularly successful if the thermal conductivities of the components vary as widely as possible. This is the case, for example, with gaseous hydrogen, which conducts heat ~10x better than air. This makes it possible to determine, for example, the concentration of H2 in the air with an accuracy of 0.1%.
